The Fittest Trucker in America

A few weeks ago, we wrote a blog post featuring Siphiwe Baleka, a renowned swimmer turned trucking fitness guru.

Since our feature on Baleka, Prime Inc. has issued a challenge to all motor carriers: compete for the title “Fittest Trucker in America” by enrolling in series of competitions to be deemed the fittest driver in the industry.

The competition works like this:

Prime Inc. has issued a challenge to other fleets to send their fittest male and female truck drivers to Prime Inc.’s headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.  The competition will be held Saturday, September 5 at Prime’s Annual Picnic and will consist of three events beginning at 8 am and lasting into that afternoon.

On the day of the event, Prime Inc. will hold two sets of three events – one for female drivers and one for male drivers. These events include bodyweight exercises, as well as the use of weights (kettle bells, sand bags, etc. not to exceed 100 pounds for men and 40 pounds for women).  These series of competitions are also designed to include a variety of truck-related maneuvers, including lowering and raising landing gear, opening and closing trailer doors, climbing in and out of the tractor trailer, etc. There will be judges on site to ensure that each competitor meets the standards for each event along the way.

Balake and Prime Inc’s ultimate goal is to encourage and promote a routine and establish a commitment to wellness for all drivers in the trucking industry.  The “Fittest of the Fleet” event aims to assist truckers in making key strides toward a healthy lifestyle while working in what many consider to be a very sedentary trade.

How to Qualify:

In order to be eligible for Prime Inc’s competition, truck drivers must hold a valid Class A CDL and have at least three months of current driving experience under their belts in the 2015 calendar year. Space in the competition is reserved for Prime Inc. drivers, but 30 spots have been opened for contenders from other fleets. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top finishers in each division. Previous year’s Fittest of the Fleet titles include Rodney McCloud (2013), Jushin Boschee (runner-up, 2013) and Randee Lewis (2014)
